    A space of humility, community, and faith, where the legacy of Cesar and Helen Chavez, and the farmworker movement they nurtured, continues to inspire action, unity, and justice.

  • Stop 1. Faith & Service

    The Memorial Garden reflects California Mission architecture and shows how faith shaped Cesar and Helen Chavez’s inclusive, service-driven activism.

  • Stop 2. Life as a Farmworker

    A statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe reflects Cesar and Helen Chavez’s roots as farmworkers, whose early hardships inspired their lifelong fight for better labor conditions.

  • Stop 3. Community in the Past & Today

    The relief and fountain honor the diverse farmworker movement, its martyrs, and the lasting community Cesar and Helen Chavez built at La Paz.

  • Stop 4. Dedication to Nature

    The Saint Francis statue reflects Cesar Chavez’s belief in nonviolence, and care for people and nature, echoed by sustainable garden design and roses named in his honor.

  • Stop 5. Remembering César & Helen

    The Memorial Garden has transformed since Cesar’s death in 1993. Helen lived at La Paz until 2016. Today, the Memorial Garden is a place where people honor Cesar and Helen’s legacy through both celebration and quiet reflection.

  • Stop 6. A National Legacy

    In 2012, the site became a National Monument honoring Cesar and Helen Chavez, the farmworker movement, and their role in advancing farmworker rights and Latino heritage.
